Disputed in the hills above Monaco, the penultimate day of the Rallye Monte Carlo saw no change at the top of the overall standings. In front since the end of day one, Sébastien Loeb and Daniel Elena will start the final day of the rally – featuring just one 5.16km-long stage – with a comfortable lead. Citroën Total World Rally Team looks set to record an excellent overall result with Mikko Hirvonen and Jarmo Lehtinen on course to take 4th place.

Day four of the Rallye Monte-Carlo began in glorious sunshine in the port of Monaco. Monaco-born Daniel Elena took a few moments to talk about the origins of his love of rallying: “The Rallye Monte-Carlo was a part of my childhood. When I was a kid, I listened to Bernard Spendler on RMC throughout the night. At 14, I drove up the Col de Turini on a moped. And then in 1997, I took part in my first Monte-Carlo rally.

It was my first World Championship rally and back then, I was driving. I don’t think about it all that very often, as I tend to become totally absorbed by the race, but there's no doubt that that rally meant something very special to me.” After being placed directly in parc fermé last night, the cars then had a long service period before heading for the start of the day’s stages. The Moulinet – La Bollène Vésubie and Lantosque – Lucéram stages formed a loop that the competitors would complete twice. As the roads were totally dry, the Citroën DS3 WRCs set off with Michelin Pilot Sport hard slicks fitted.

Banque PSA Finance signs a new EUR 2,000,000,000 revolving credit facility

On 13th December, Banque PSA Finance signed a € 2,0 billion 3-year syndicated revolving credit facility (with the possibility of two 1-year extensions, at the banks' option). The new Facility refinances an existing € 2,0 billion facility which was due to mature in June 2012.

Syndication of this Facility was oversubscribed by 25 banks from ten countries, including six new banks.

The Facility had been arranged by nine Bookrunners (Banco Bilbao Vizcaya Argentaria S.A., Barclays Corporate, BNP Paribas, Credit Agricole Corporate and Investment Bank, HSBC France, Lloyds TSB Bank, Natixis, The Royal Bank of Scotland plc and Société Générale Corporate & Investment Banking) and four Mandated Lead Arrangers (Banc of America Securities Limited, Banco Santander S.A., Citigroup Global Markets Limited and Commerzbank AG).

This revolving facility has an opening margin of 160 basis points and a 40% non-utilization fee.

With this new facility Banque PSA Finance has anticipated, at attractive conditions, the need to refinance in 2012 a significant credit line which is a key element of its financial security. The success of this transaction confirms the strong support provided to Banque PSA Finance by its relationship banks.

Renault Samsung Motors unveiled All-New SM7 at a media road test in South Korea and the model will be available in showrooms from mid-August.

To underpin the in-depth changes it introduces, the second-generation SM7 will be known as All-New SM7 and was developed over a period of 32 months, with R&D investments amounting some 400 billion South Korean won (€270 million). Renault Samsung Motors’ flagship model delivers the same impeccable quality and value for money of former SM7 models and exceeds the demand of its E-segment customers thanks to the advanced Renault-Nissan Alliance technologies it packs.

All-New SM7 features the elegant and sophisticated styling expected of a prestige saloon, with a special focus on roomy cabin space and premium well-being features, plus an exceptionally silent ride and outstanding travelling comfort.

It boasts the roomiest interior in its segment with kneeroom for rear passengers up by more than 70mm over the previous SM7, plus plenty of headroom and shoulder room. Several premium well-being features have been introduced, too, including Aviation Headrests – another segment first – plus an optimized Air-Ventilation System which distinguishes it from other big Korean-made saloons. The ultimate motoring experience is ensured by the car's quiet ride and exceptional, segment-leading ride comfort. Meanwhile, features like the 'Sport Mode' function and Paddle Shift gearshifts are available for the first time in the segment to deliver even greater driving enjoyment. All-New SM7 is powered by the Nissan VQ engine which has been listed by the leading automotive industry research group Ward’s as one of the world's top 10 engines for 14 consecutive years. The performance and durability of the third-generation VQ engine has been achieved thanks to extensive work in areas such as friction and optimised engine management, as well as improved intake and exhaust systems, a more efficient catalytic converter and the use of iridium spark plugs, etc. The VQ powerplant drives through a new, six-speed automatic transmission with a manual shift function which includes a high-capacity torque converter for seamless gear changes and superior driving performance. All-New SM7 can be specified with one of two engines: the 3.5 VQ (six-speed automatic transmission with manual gearshift mode) or the 2.5 VQ (six-speed automatic transmission with manual selector mode). Both will be available with three equipment levels to cover the different needs and tastes of the model's customers.

The maximum power delivered by the VQ25 engine is 190hp, an increase of 15 percent over the previous SM7, while peak torque stands at 243Nm at 4,400rpm. This version of the engine has sought to optimise performance in the most practical and commonly-used rev ranges, while customers also benefit from energy control technology features like ESM (Energy Smart Management) for fuel consumption of just nine litres/100km.

In the case of the VQ35 engine, maximum power of 258hp (up more than 20% over the previous SM7) makes it the segment's most powerful powerplant. Peak torque of 330Nm is produced at 4,400rpm, allowing drivers to benefit from outstanding performance compared with rival models across the most practical and frequently-employed engine speed ranges. Fuel consumption is a low 10.4 litres/100km.

Prices for All-New SM7 range from 30 to 39 million Korean won (€19,724 to 25,641), while that of the previous SM7 ranged from 28.8 to 37.7 million Korean won (€18,935 to €24,786).

Thanks to its competitive price tag, which belies its enhanced performance characteristics, All-New SM7 is expected to have a radical effect on the big saloon car market.

PSA Peugeot Citroën inaugurates the new three-cylinder petrol engine assembly line at its Trémery plant

Philippe Varin, Chairman of the PSA Peugeot Citroën Managing Board, and Christian Galliard de Lavernée, Prefect of France's Lorraine region, today inaugurated the production unit for a new family of three-cylinder petrol engines at its Trémery plant in Moselle, eastern France. PSA Peugeot Citroën has decided to conduct an in-depth overhaul of its small engine line-up, in a project that is just as important as its HDi diesel engine initiative. This new family of three-cylinder engines will be more efficient and cleaner (thanks to their smaller size), while maintaining performance in terms of power and torque.

More compact and delivering 68 to 82 horsepower, the new three-cylinder engines will reduce fuel consumption and carbon emissions by 25% compared with today's four-cylinder engines. Drivers will see their energy consumption reduced by approximately 1.5 litres per 100 kilometres while maintaining optimal driving enjoyment. The new engines will be fitted on the future Peugeot 208, to be launched in first-quarter 2012, with CO2 emissions of just 104 grams per kilometre for its 1.2-litre VTI 82hp version and 99 grams per kilometre for its 1.0-litre VTi 68hp version.

The Group has invested €717 million in the project, launched in early 2008, of which €460 million for research and development. In all, 52 patents have been filed and 1,200 engineers and technicians have been involved. A total of €257 million was allocated for capital spending projects in eastern France, mainly at the Trémery plant.

In the start-up phase since September 2011, the new EB engine will be produced at Trémery. The project has a potential annual production capacity of 640,000 engines and will create 500 jobs. Brought on stream in 1979, Trémery is the world's leading diesel engine production facility with a total output of 35 million units. The plant currently has 3,720 employees.

In a second phase, the new engines designed in France will be produced in Latin America and China to meet local needs and will represent a key asset for the Group's international expansion.

The new three-cylinder petrol engine, which integrates the most advanced environmental technology, will enable PSA Peugeot Citroën to strengthen its leadership in low-carbon-emission vehicles.

Following the success of last year’s model, Renault has introduced a new, numbered, limited edition version of Mégane Coupé-Cabriolet, namely Mégane Coupé-Cabriolet Floride.

Presented today, as a world premier on the Chinese market, to around 300 Chinese journalists and more than 700 network representatives by Jean-Marc Gales the Marque's Managing Director, the new Peugeot 408 marks a further step in the Marque's offensive on the world's foremost automobile market.

Despite being present on the Chinese market for 5 years only, the Peugeot Marque sold over 410 000 vehicles in 2009. This corresponds to a 44% sales increase compared with its 2008 performance.

Following its fine performance in the M1 segment with the success of the 307 saloon and the 307 notch-back, of which 3,522,800 have been produced worldwide, Peugeot is now quite legitimately embarking on a Chinese market offensive with its new 408 DF Peugeot.

This new prestigious notchback tailored for the Chinese market will serve to reinforce Dong Feng Peugeot's product offer on the M1 segment that accounts for over 45 % of the total market.

In this manner, the new Peugeot DF 408 should enable the Lion Marque to increase its sales volumes by over 30% in 2010, compared with 2009, and thereby to grow at twice the forecast pace of the market.

This half-height architecture notch-back saloon has been designed and developed jointly by Peugeot's Styling teams in Europe and China and meets three objectives: embody the Marque's modernity, guarantee maximum safety and offer unrivalled interior space.

The 408 name follows the Lion Marque's traditional naming logic.
The figure 4 refers to the size of the car (4.68 m) and its positioning in the medium-luxury family saloon segment. The 0 in the middle signifies that it belongs to the Peugeot Marque, while the 8 expresses the vehicle generation.

With this name, the 408 naturally falls into place within the current Peugeot range and becomes the forerunner of the 8 series, the latest generation vehicles to be launched on the Chinese market.

On 31 December 2009, Banque PSA Finance received a banking license from the Russian central bank. The license paves the way for the launch of Bank PSA Finance RUS, the new name of its 98%-owned Russian banking subsidiary acquired from AIG in September 2009.

As a result, Banque PSA Finance is one of the first captive carmaker finance companies to be authorised to conduct banking business in Russia. Citroën Racing and Red Bull give wings to Kimi Räikkönen in 2010

Since its establishment in 2008, the association between Citroën Racing and Red Bull has already reaped world titles for Citroën, Sébastien Loeb and Daniel Elena in 2008 and 2009*, and the ties between the two companies are to be stepped up for next season. In addition to the Citroën Total World Rally Team-entered C4 WRCs of Sébastien Loeb and Dani Sordo, a second team will also now run two C4 WRCs for Kimi Räikkönen and Sébastien Ogier in the colours of Red Bull and Citroën.

The collaboration between Citroën and Red Bull, which dates back to the 2008 Rally Argentina (won by Sébastien Loeb and Daniel Elena) and which has since harvested 15 other wins, is to be reinforced in 2010. As in 2008 and 2009, the two Citroën Total World Rally Team-run C4 WRCs will both sport the livery of the famous energy drink, and the defending World Champions have renewed their faith in Sébastien Loeb/Daniel Elena and Dani Sordo/Marc Marti.

The deal will be extended in 2010 to include the two Citroën Junior Team cars that will compete in Red Bull's colours on 12 of the 2010 FIA World Rally Championship's 13 rounds, the exception being the Rally of New Zealand. New Design Directors Appointed at Peugeot and Citroën

Gilles Vidal and Thierry Metroz are appointed respectively Design Director for Peugeot and Design Director for Citroën, effective 4 January 2010. Both will report to Jean-Pierre Ploué, Design Director for the PSA Peugeot Citroën Group.

With the appointment of two experienced professionals widely recognised for creativity in automobile design, Mr. Ploué has demonstrated a commitment to strengthening the new organisation established in October 2008 and to pursuing the goal of clearly differentiating the two brands. Maintaining a lead in automobile design is one of the priorities announced by Philippe Varin, Chairman of PSA Peugeot Citroën. Peugeot Design Director Gilles Vidal, 37, is a graduate of the Art Center College of Design of Vevey in Switzerland. He joined the Group in 1996 and spent nine years working alongside Mr. Ploué to revamp the Group’s line-up. Since early 2009, he has been in charge of concept cars for Peugeot’s styling department. With the Peugeot BB1, which combines the features of a two-wheel and four-wheel vehicle, he broke new ground in the search for electric urban mobility solutions. He also helped to define Peugeot’s new identity, to be unveiled in early January. Citroën Design Director Thierry Metroz, 46, is a graduate of Ecole Nationale Supérieure des Arts Appliqués et des Métiers d’Art (ENSAAMA). He has spent his entire career in automobile design. His professional experience includes setting up design and styling units abroad and managing international projects in Asia and Brazil. Backed by a strong capacity for innovation, he has left his mark on various vehicles that have reshaped the automobile landscape in recent years. His last position before leaving Renault last July was director of exterior design.

The Citroën Total World Rally Team's flag-to-flag domination of this weekend's RallyRACC Catalunya was rewarded by the outfit's third one-two finish of the season. Thanks to their sixth win of the year, Sébastien Loeb and Daniel Elena have succeeded in closing to within a single point of Mikko Hirvonen in the 2009 Drivers' standings, while second place for Dani Sordo and Marc Marti handed Citroën sufficient points to wrap up the firm's fifth Manufacturers' world crown. The outcome of the Drivers' title chase will be settled on Rally GB (October 23-25).

Sébastien Loeb and Dani Sordo ended Saturday's action split by just 1.5 seconds and in a strong position to fulfil the mission they had been given by Olivier Quesnel before the start. Before any celebrations could begin, however, they still had two attempts at today's loop of three-stages west of Salou to tackle, and neither driver had any intention of easing up out of a desire to stay one hundred per cent focused, savour today's six tests and entertain the huge crowds which lined the stages.

The Group has set an ambitious target in eco-design: to include 20% of green materials in the polymers used to build its cars by 2011. A car is made up of 70% metal, already largely recycled, 5% miscellaneous materials (glass, etc.) and 5% fluids. The rest is plastics (polymers).

The term “green materials” covers natural fibres such as linen and hemp, non-metallic recycled materials and biomaterials, which are produced using renewable resources rather than petrochemicals. The aim is to use fewer fossil fuel plastics and to increase the use of raw materials from renewable sources to make parts lighter, in some cases, to cut CO2 emissions from plastics production and to promote plastics recycling.

The Earth’s resources are dwindling, so it is important to optimise the way in which they are used. End-of-life processing is therefore factored in from the design stage. The aim is to boost recyclability and thus reduce the potential impact of end-of-life vehicles. As a minimum, 85% of a vehicles weight can be reused or recycled, and a further 10% can be used for energy recovery.

The key feature of the action plan set up by PSA Peugeot Citroën in 2008 is that it concerns all Group vehicles and the three families of green materials. The green material content of each vehicle project must be increased. This approach also involves existing vehicles, with green materials being integrated during their production life. Engineering teams are working in close cooperation with suppliers in order to utilise these new materials.

This effort also gives new impetus to the recycled materials industry. The subject of biomaterials is still at the research stage in the automotive industry. To address the issue, scientific partnerships have been set up as part of research groups bringing together public laboratories, chemical firms and parts suppliers. The aim of these partnerships is to accelerate the application of these materials in the automotive industry.

Sébastien Loeb, who will begin Rally Finland with a one-point deficit compare with Mikko Hirvonen, believes that the Drivers' World Rally Championship will really start in Jyväskylä! The five-time World Champion and his co-driver Daniel Elena will be hoping to repeat their memorable victory of 2008 as they attempt to regain the upper hand in the series. Meanwhile, Citroën Total World Rally Team continues to enjoy a handsome cushion at the top of the Manufacturers' standings, while Dani Sordo and Marc Marti are targeting a podium finish in Finland, a terrain on which they feel increasingly at ease.

The high-speed stages, spectacular jumps and concealed corners of the former 1000 Lakes Rally are a unique challenge for any driver, and more especially so for those who weren't raised in Finland! This round has counted towards the World Championship 33 times, yet only three non-Nordics have succeeded in popping the champagne in Jyväskylä in that time, namely Carlos Sainz, Didier Auriol and … Sébastien Loeb who took the top prize last year after a thrilling duel with Mikko Hirvonen.

Sébastien Loeb and Daniel Elena would obviously like to repeat that achievement on their main rival's home turf. "It would clearly be more comfortable if we had a lead of, say, 20 points going into this rally. That said, we were only three points clear of Mikko before last year's visit," recalls Seb. "This time, the gap is even narrower, and there are only four more rallies to come this season. As I see it, it's as though the championship will be beginning afresh in Finland, and our only option will be to attack."

At a meeting of the PSA Peugeot Citroën Central Works Council, Denis Martin, Executive Vice President Human Resources, announced an ambitious programme to help bring young people into the workforce. By the summer of 2010, PSA Peugeot Citroën intends to sign 2,000 work-study contracts, 2,100 skills-acquisition contracts, 3,000 internship agreements and 200 VIE co-op placements for a total of 7,300 job opportunities for young people.

The programme is designed to prepare the competencies the Company will be needing in the future in a broad range of business areas, skills sets and qualifications, while giving young people a real chance to envision their future and enter the workforce by discovering first-hand the jobs and values of a large manufacturer like PSA Peugeot Citroën. Senior employees will be particularly involved in mentoring and sponsoring the students and interns, to foster the transmission of skills and facilitate orientation. A meeting has been scheduled with employee representatives to discuss this topic. The programme also includes a significant number of measures targeted to young people with few or no qualifications. These individuals will be offered the opportunity to learn how to operate industrial systems, with a minimum of 150 hours of training during the year, of which 70 hours devoted to Lean Manufacturing. Those who successfully complete the training module will earn professional certification in metalworking. The programme received unanimous labour union approval at the Central Works Council meeting.

The extension adds 7,000 square meters to the production unit, which already comprised some 42,000 square meters of existing buildings. Requiring an investment of €83 million, the extension integrates PSA Production System* (SPP) technology that makes the site more efficient and competitive. When it becomes operational in February 2010, production capacity will increase from 1,750 to 2,625 units a day. Specialised in the manufacture of gearboxes, the Valenciennes plant currently employs 2,250 people. Four types of gearbox are produced on the site, two of which were launched within the past three years: - The five-speed manually operated BE gearbox launched in 1981 - The AL4 automatic gearbox introduced in 1997 - The six-speed MCP automated gearbox introduced in 2006, which reduces fuel consumption and CO2 emissions by 3% to 5% thanks to optimised electronic control of the clutch and gear shifting - The mechanical compact manual gearbox launched in late 2007 and derived from the MCP gearbox. The International Engine of the Year award in the 1.4-litre to 1.8-litre category was once again won by the 1.6-litre, four-cylinder direct injection turbo petrol engine designed by PSA Peugeot Citroën in cooperation with BMW Group.

Several months ago, PSA Peugeot Citroën’s Mulhouse and Sochaux plants launched pilot projects to process engineer the new HYbrid4 hybrid diesel 4WD technology.

Applying highly innovative quality and lean manufacturing methods, the two plants have put together in-house teams to engineer the processes and facilities for HYbrid4 technology, scheduled to enter production in 2011. HYbrid4 technology combines an HDi diesel engine and an electric motor, which is located on the rear axle. To support this technology, the Group has developed a unique rear-axle assembly on which the electric motor will be mounted. The modular architecture of this technology means that it is portable across several vehicle types, irrespective of the engine type. Over recent months teams at the Mulhouse plant’s mechanical assembly unit have deployed a series of lean manufacturing projects aimed at improving the organization of the workshop that will assemble the new electric drivetrain. PSA Peugeot Citroën’s lean manufacturing enables efficiency, quality and costs to be optimised through teamwork. This is a highly complex process, because it involves the assembly of both conventional mechanical parts and newer electrical components. By using a full-scale 3-D model to create a virtual workshop, team leaders and technicians are identifying ways to drive improvements in both efficiency and quality. These simulations are designed to optimize use of floor space, enhance workstation ergonomics and generally facilitate handling and assembly while streamlining logistics flows. Their outcomes will also be used to prepare precise specifications for suppliers. Several prototype Peugeot 3008 vehicles fitted with HYbrid4 technology have already rolled off the prototype assembly line at the Sochaux plant. The Integration of the hybrid drivetrain into the vehicle was completed in record time by leveraging the extensive hybrid-drivetrain expertise acquired in recent years, most notably on the Citroën C4 and Peugeot 308. Development work was further accelerated by routinely using digital tools, which model both physical and virtual aspects of the process and by locating the entire Hybrid project team on-site. Cellular working also got the best out of the teams and accelerated development. Several months from now, PSA Peugeot Citroën will finalise how the production of this future technology will be organized.

Spanish star Dani Sordo was at the wheel.Having been born out of the Citroën Racing team’s creative desire to perfect a competitive yet innovative racer, the Citroën C4 WRC HYbrid4 project met with a warm reception when it was presented at the Paris Motor Show. The concept went on to make a hit at the Bologna Motor Show and then at the opening ceremony of the Rally Norway. Since the Geneva Motor Show, it carries the new livery of the title-winning Citroën C4 WRC.

The Citroën C4 WRC HYbrid4 was developed using Citroën’s current World Rally Championship contender as a base. An electrical propulsion system has been added to the internal combustion engine, gearbox, and transmission that are specific to the WRC machine.

The addition of a 990-cell Ion Lithium battery on top of the petrol tank and a 125 kW electric motor driving the rear wheels puts an extra 150 kg onto the overall weight.

PSA Peugeot Citroën has been one of the first companies to earn the new Seal of Diversity created by the French government. The distinction was presented on Friday, 10 April to Denis Martin, Executive Vice President, Human Resources, by Eric Besson, Minister of Immigration, Integration, National Identity and Mutually-Supportive Development.

The Seal of Diversity is designed to promote best human resources management practices to promote diversity, support equal opportunity and prevent discrimination.

It is awarded after a highly demanding certification process led by AFNOR Certification, the national certification agency. In October 2008, a diversity audit was performed on all of the Group’s human resources policies and procedures.

The award of the Seal recognises the Group’s equal opportunity policies implemented since the signature by all of the unions of the gender equality agreement in 2003 and the signature of the diversity and social cohesion agreement in 2004. These policies have been extended to every host country as part of the Global Corporate Social Responsibility Agreement signed in March 2006. They are regularly tracked and assessed for every category, including visible minorities.

The measures deployed over the past five years have had a major impact. For example, of the 2,743 managers, administrative employees, technicians and supervisors hired under permanent contracts between 2005 and 2008 to work in the French production plants, 24% were women, 6% were non-French nationals, 9% were visible minorities and 33% came from disadvantaged urban neighbourhoods. Audits also show that wage increases and promotions are offered in the same proportions as the percentage of each category in the workforce.

The diversity and social cohesion agreement was renegotiated and signed on 6 October 2008 with all of the unions.

In 2005, PSA Peugeot Citroën was the first French company to earn the Seal of Gender Equality.

Citroën reports record month and quarter in France

With a 16.1% share of the French passenger car market in March, Citroën reported its highest monthly sales total in 35 years. Citroën took a 15.3% share of the passenger car market in the first three months of 2009, its best first quarter in 30 years.
In a French passenger car (PC) market that contracted 3.9%, Citroën was the only French brand to increase sales (by 4.3%) in the first quarter. The Marque grew its market share by 1.2 points year-on-year to 15.3%.

This performance was driven by the success of Citroën’s recently launched vehicles.
- The C4 Picasso (5- and 7-seater models) strengthened its position as France’s best-selling MPV in the first quarter.
- The C5 confirmed its leadership in its segment with more than 8,000 registrations in the first three months of the year, for a total 33,800 registrations since launch one year ago.
- The Berlingo has led its segment since the start of the year, with nearly 4,000 registrations in three months.
- Lastly, the C3 Picasso, Citroën’s latest release, is living up to ambitions. Alain Favey, commercial director, France, said: “We are launching the C3 Picasso, our ‘space box’, in a favourable context for Citroën products. It has already received an excellent welcome, with more than 6,000 orders since launch.”

The Group’s commitment takes the form of 10 practical objectives, most of which are measurable and all involve the entire workforce. This road map is reflected in a plan of priority actions revised yearly by the Executive Committee. Three of the ten objectives are more directly visible for the customer: - The Group’s first objective is to remain the leader in low emission vehicles. The third day of action of this year's Cyprus Rally took crews back into the Troodos Mountains, but today's tests threw up their own special challenge. The leg kicked off with the 30-kilometre Foini stage which was followed by a 15-minute remote service break. Competitors then faced the longest test of the weekend which took the form of the incredibly twisty 40.54km Anadiou stage. The event finished with a return to Anadiou Dam (11.70km) which crews had already contested on Saturday.

PSA Peugeot Citroën is stepping up implementation of its electric powertrain development projects with the support of dedicated partnerships, in a commitment to bringing the first Peugeot electric vehicles to market in late 2010.

As part of this dynamic, a new cooperation agreement was signed with Mitsubishi Motor Corporation on 2 March 2009. The two automakers will work together to develop an EV for the European market based on MMC’s i MiEV car. It will be sold under the Peugeot brand alongside the European version of the i MiEV marketed by Mitsubishi itself. In addition, Citroën is planning innovative electric vehicle concepts like the one illustrated by the electric C-Cactus concept car. In March 2008, PSA Peugeot Citroën teamed with Venturi to bid on a tender from the French post office for 500 application-specific electric vehicles. The proposed vehicle, a Citroën Berlingo First electric van, is currently being tested by the Post Office. The Group also signed a partnership agreement in October 2008 with French power utility EDF to pursue development work on battery technologies, charging systems and the vehicle-infrastructure interface, along with the related business models. At the same time, PSA Peugeot Citroën is focusing its research on developing a multipurpose plug-in hybrid EV in which some of the batteries are removed to install a small fuel-efficient internal combustion engine. The remaining batteries will give a range of around 50 kilometres, which is more or less sufficient for everyday driving needs, and can be recharged in a variety of locations (work, home, parking lots, shopping centres, etc.). Mitsubishi Motors Corporation (MMC) and PSA Peugeot Citroën announced today that both companies have signed a Memorandum of Understanding regarding collaboration on electric vehicles based on a vehicle currently under development by MMC in Japan.

In June 2008, both companies started a feasibility study of the development, manufacture and use of an electric powertrain for small urban vehicles. The companies have now reached an understanding that will allow PSA to partner with MMC for the development of an electric vehicle for Europe based on MMC’s i MiEV , to be manufactured by MMC and sold under Peugeot brand, in parallel to Mitsubishi’s own European i MiEV. This new step would be mutually beneficial since the collaboration of MMC and PSA Peugeot Citroën will ease and accelerate the introduction of their electric vehicles in the European market. At its meeting on 10 February 2009, the PSA Peugeot Citroën Supervisory Board reviewed the remuneration package for members of the Managing Board.
Their salary, which in 2008 amounted to €1,030,000 for the Chairman and €618,000 for the other members, will remain unchanged in 2009.

Their 2008 bonus, based on the Group’s results for the year and the objectives set for each member’s functions, will represent between 20% and 30% of their salary, compared with 85% to 100% the year before.

Christian Streiff, Chairman of the Managing Board, informed the Supervisory Board that he would forego his bonus for 2008, which would have amounted to 25% of his salary.

Memories of the elegant 401, 601 and 402 ‘Eclipse’ models of the 1930s were stirred, reviving Peugeot’s close association with a motoring concept based on driving as the mood takes you, in Coupé or Cabriolet configuration, through the ‘magic’ of a retractable rigid roof that folds into the boot space.

The years 2000 and 2003 saw this expertise developed further with the 206 CC 2+2 and the 307 CC with four full size seats, popularising a concept which was considered elitist accessible to the all in the 21st Century. The successors to that first generation have already appeared, with the 207 CC and now the 308 CC, which received its premiere at the Paris Motor Show.

New technology, new approach to driving
The 3008 is a new compact yet spacious car designed to explore new vehicle territories. As an MPV, it positions itself at the cross-roads between several worlds, both with regard to its exterior and interior proportions, with a passenger compartment that is as practical as it is prestigious for driver and passengers alike. It offers new technological equipment (grip control, dynamic rolling control, a heads-up display, distance alert parking, automatic electric parking brake, etc.), which contribute to driving enjoyment and safety.

The 3008 sees itself as a respectful guardian of the environment with an efficient range, the first offering of which produces a mere 130g of CO2 per kilometre.

2008 was a highly contrasted year varying significantly from the first half of the year to the second: • The first six months of the year showed strong improvements in both worldwide sales (up 4.6%) and operating margin (3.7% of sales and revenue), in line with the CAP 2010 programme. • The second half saw the collapse of global automobile markets and a subsequent increase in inventory. In response, the Group significantly reduced production in the fourth quarter and prioritised the reduction of stock in the dealer network. These two actions had a major negative effect on the profitability of the Group. In 2008, the CAP 2010 competitiveness programme delivered €1.414 billion in cost savings. In this highly unfavourable environment, the Group successfully maintained its market share during the year by leveraging a number of strengths: • A record pace of new model launches. • Best selling models demonstrating record quality (the Peugeot 308 and Citroën C5). • Sustained leadership in low-emission vehicles with 1.1 million sold emitting less than 140g CO2/km. • Uncontested leadership in light commercial vehicles, with 19.9% of the European market. After increasing 32.4% in the first half, recurring operating income was negative in the second half, reflecting the collapse in volumes sold and the reduced fixed cost absorption due to groupwide production stoppages. The recurring operating margin ended the year at 1% after a continued improvement in the first half. The momentum of cost savings continued from the CAP 2010 programme to reach €1,414 million for the full year. • Non-recurring operating expense amounted to €917 million. The unprecedented collapse in the automotive market triggered the launch of new restructuring plans in both the Automobile Division and at Faurecia for a total of €512 million. In addition, the impact of the fall in demand and the prospect of further contraction led to an aggregate €405 million in exceptional impairment charges in the Automobile Division and in Faurecia’s vehicle interior business. • The net loss attributable to the Group amounted to €343 million for the year. • The net financial position was a negative €2,906 million at 31 December 2008, while operating cash flow stood at €2,380 million for the year. However, while free cash flow was positive in the first half of the year, the collapse in the automotive markets and the resulting inventory build-up led to a very significant increase in working capital requirement in the second half of the year. In 2008 capital expenditure and R&D outlays amounted to €3.8 billion. As a result, the Group ended the year with negative free cash flow of €3,764 million. • The Group’s financial structure is solid. Equity amounted to €13,277 million at 31 December 2008. Results by Division Automobile Division • Automobile Division sales and revenue totalled €41,643 million in 2008, down 8.5%. In the 4th quarter, market share for the Group even reached 14.1%, an increase of 0.5% compared with the same quarter in 2007. • A recurring operating loss of €225 million was recorded for 2008, compared with a profit of €858 million in 2007. Despite an encouraging €633 million in recurring operating income in the first half of the year, the collapse in sales and the production cuts in the fourth quarter led to an €858 million recurring operating loss in the second half. The full year recurring operating margin stood at - 0.5% after reaching 2.7% in the first half. This reflected: o The positive impact of the savings from the CAP 2010 programme (€1,414 million). o The negative impact of the currency effect (€324 million) and higher raw materials prices (€377 million). • European inventory is near to December 2007 levels: o The Group massively reduced its production, quicker and more significantly than the sector average, reducing it’s worldwide production by 26% in the fourth quarter compared with the same period in 2007 o Independent dealer stocks fell by 20% in 2008 as a result of a Group decision to voluntarily limit sales to dealers and to absorb stock costs at Group level. Faurecia • Faurecia’s sales and revenue totalled €12,011 million in 2008, down 5.1% compared to 2007 (€12,661 million). • Recurring operating income fell to €91 million from €121 million in 2007. • Faurecia made a net loss of €569 million. • Faurecia has accelerated its recovery plan: o Acceleration of the restructuring and competitiveness programme across the global organisation. o A €450 million rights issue to finance the recovery plan, underwritten by PSA Peugeot Citroën. GEFCO • GEFCO reported €3,536 million in sales and revenue in 2008, down 0.5% compared with 2007 (€3,554 million). • GEFCO recorded recurring operating income of €127 million (compared to €155 million in 2007), reflecting improved cost management and the quick implementation of action plans, which allowed the company to compensate partially for rising fuel prices during the first nine months of the year and reducing production at customer manufacturing plants. Banque PSA Finance • Banque PSA Finance performed well, with sales and revenue totalling €2,088 million in 2008, up 4.5% compared with 2007. Banque PSA Finance was able to refinance sufficiently to maintain its commercial activity at 2007 levels. The Bank’s market share even rose to 27.3% during the year from 26% in 2007. • Recurring operating income contracted to €557 million from €608 million in 2007. • Banque PSA Finance’s balance sheet remains solid, thanks to effective credit risk management and the limited impact of refinancing costs despite the liquidity crisis. Banque PSA Finance has 6 billion euros in undrawn credit lines and maintains a European capital ratio of over 11%. Outlook for 2009 Christian Streiff, Chairman of the PSA Peugeot Citroën Managing Board, said: “Faced with the prospect of a prolonged recession, our priorities are clear. We must concentrate all our efforts on reducing inventory and minimising our cash consumption through our CASH 2009 programme, and we must pursue our initiatives to cut costs as part of the CAP 2010 plan, so that we can return to profit during the course of 2010. At the same time, we must prepare for the future by targeting our investments and R&D expenditure to develop new vehicles and new environmental solutions to ensure sustained and profitable growth for PSA Peugeot Citroën once this crisis is behind us. Our intention is to maintain investment and expenditure on automotive R&D at around 3.5 billion euros.” The Group expects Western European automotive markets to experience a further decline of around 20% in 2009 followed by stability in 2010. The first half of 2009 is expected to be particularly difficult. 2009 is expected to be loss making for the Group. CASH 2009 actions will not be enough to compensate for the collapse of markets and the cash costs of restructuring, with the result that free cash flow will be negative in 2009. Proactive refinancing with a conservative liquidity policy will allow the Group to return to profit whilst building for the future. The Group’s funding requirements for the manufacturing and sales activities is therefore expected to be around €4 billion in 2009. The €3 billion Government loan, together with the other financing sources, will cover these needs. The commercial offensive will be maintained in 2009, with all of the new model launches proceeding as scheduled. These new models are the direct result of CAP 2010 actions and the reduction in vehicle development time. Peugeot will make substantial steps to expand market coverage with the new 308 CC, its first crossover (the 3008) and its first compact MPV. Citroën will roll out its new “Creative Technologie” brand image and launch the C3 Picasso in early 2009.

Despite today's difficult economic context, Peugeot has chosen to pursue its different motor sport activities in 2009. These range from its high profile endurance racing programme to the promotion of its products through its various single-make series. The current crisis has led Peugeot's management to seek synergies within Groupe PSA Peugeot Citroën with the appointment of Olivier Quesnel at the helm of Peugeot Sport.

Peugeot Sport suffered a huge disappointment in 2008 after coming so close to winning the Le Mans 24 Hours with the 908 HDi FAP which, even so, demonstrated its competitive potential with a score of four wins from five races in last year's Le Mans Series. The entire team is today fully focused on this year's programme, beginning with its efforts to iron out the shortcomings that handicapped its bid for victory last year at Le Mans. These areas include optimisation of the traction control system, preventing the radiators from getting choked up and improvements to the fitment of the wheels with a view facilitating their replacement by the mechanics. Meanwhile, it has been a case of adapting the 908 to the latest ACO regulations which target a significant curbing of performance.
"The engine settings have been completely revised to take onboard the new air restrictor dimensions and the lower turbo pressure which has resulted in a fall in power of approximately 10 per cent," explains Peugeot Sport's Technical Director Bruno Famin. "Significant work has gone into the 908's aerodynamics, too, in order to re-optimise the car's balance following the notable reduction in the width of rear wings which has been cut from two to 1.60 metres. We are also continuing with development work aimed at putting air-conditioning in the cockpit with a view to ensuring that the temperature inside the car stays within the regulatory threshold.

The PSA Peugeot Citroën Group welcomes the €3 billion loan from the French State, which will be used, in particular, to support the Group's programme to develop cleaner, more fuel efficient and more affordable vehicles.

Aware of its responsibilities and in the context of its commitment toward the Government, the Group will not close any of its French plants. Over the next two years, one or more new models will be launched at each of its five assembly units in France. In the current circumstances, the Group will not implement any compulsory redundancy plans in France. The Group is also actively supporting its automobile industry partners, by speeding up payments to suppliers in line with France's Economic Modernization Act, raising its contribution to the Automobile Industry Investment Fund from €100 million to €200 million, implementing the code of good practice and competitiveness developed jointly by the Committee of French Automobile Manufacturers (CCFA) and the Automobile Industry Suppliers' Liaison Committee (CLIFA), and negotiating a special agreement with Groupement de la Plasturgie, the body representing suppliers of plastic components, that takes into account the specific characteristics of this industry. PSA Peugeot Citroën will continue to work in partnership with its suppliers to maintain its position as Europe's leading manufacturer of low-CO2 vehicles. Its strategy in this area focuses on researching and developing cutting edge technologies such as Stop & Start, hybrid vehicles, plug-in hybrids and electric vehicles. Citroën C4 WRC crews Sébastien Loeb/Daniel Elena and Dani Sordo/Marc Marti repeated their result on the 2007 Rally Ireland with another one-two finish today in Sligo. The former succeeded in taking control after the opening loop on Friday morning before gradually pulling clear of their chasers, while the five-time World Champions' Spanish team-mates tucked into their wake to hand Citroën a maximum points haul in the Manufacturers World Rally Championship.

Following two days of uninterrupted heavy rain, competitors were greeted by crisp dry, sunny weather in the north of Ireland for the final day of the rally. Tyre choices were once against a major topic of conversation in this morning's early service park in Sligo as crews pondered whether to continue with the Pirelli Sottozero snow tyres they had been using since Friday lunchtime or else switch to the PZero asphalt tyre? Based on the information available to them, Citroën's crews and engineers chose to stay on Sottozeros. "If we had been looking for outright performance in this morning's damp conditions, we would no doubt have switched to the PZero," explains Citroën Sport's Operations Manager Didier Clément. "However, given the lead Sébastien and Dani enjoyed this morning, we were able to go for the safe option. Both our two have become accustomed to the grip provided by the Sottozeros on these stages and we all believe they were the best call.

The Citroen Junior Team will make its competition debut on the opening round of the 2009 FIA World Rally Championship, the Rally Ireland. Three Citroen C4 WRCs will be entrusted to Chris Atkinson/Stéphane Prevot, Conrad Rautenbach/Daniel Barritt and Sébastien Ogier/Julien Ingrassia.

Having claimed a fourth manufacturers’ title last year, Citroen has now entered a second team in this category for the 2009 season. Complementing the Citroen-Total World Rally Team, the Citroen Junior Team will reinforce the marque’s presence on the championship by providing a cradle for young talent.

Building on the foundations laid in 2008, the Citroen Junior Team will take the start of the first round of the year with three Citroen C4 WRCs. The 3-millionth vehicle equipped with a DPF (diesel particulate filter) — a Peugeot 207 1.6 HDi — rolled off the assembly line at the PSA Peugeot Citroën plant in Poissy, France.

Giving the Group a near ten-year advance on future Euro V regulations(1), PSA Peugeot Citroën’s DPF technology has set the new standard for diesel engines in Europe. The patented, additive-based technology was premiered worldwide in May 2000 on the Peugeot 607, before being gradually extended to Peugeot and Citroën models in every vehicle segment. This broad deployment across both brands has helped to expand the use of DPF technology, which was designed to eliminate particulates, the main drawback of diesel engines. 2008 market share worldwide maintained at 5%, PSA Peugeot Citroën sales hold up against the sharp drop in automotive markets

Western Europe: positions held with market share stable at 13.8%

In a European PC+LCV market collapsing 8.8% in 2008, PSA Peugeot Citroën registrations fell back 8.6% to 2,130,900 units (1,125,700 Peugeot and 1,005,200 Citroën). Over the period, Group market share stood at 13.8%, an identical performance to 2007.

• In France, the Group reached 31.6% market share with 794,200 vehicles registered (PC + LCV), i.e. an increase of 1.9% in a market down 0.6%. Group market share rose 0.8 points in 2008.

• In Germany, PSA Peugeot Citroën market share was up 0.2 points at 5.7%. In a market down 1.7%, Group registrations were up 2.1% at 189,500 units.

• In Spain, with the market plummeting 29.8%, PSA Peugeot Citroën registrations stood at 254,300 units, down 30%. Group market share was 19.1% largely unchanged from the 19.2% in 2007.

• In the UK, penalised by an unfavourable pound sterling / euro exchange rate, the Group pressed on in the second half of the year with its strategy aimed at alleviating the negative impact to its return on sales. In a market down 11.7%, Group registrations have consequently fallen 17.1% to 237,200 units. Market share stood at 9.8% compared with 10.4% in 2007.

• In Italy, the Group’s 235,700 registrations were down 12.5% in line with the market decline of 12.7%.

Central and Eastern Europe: market share stable at 7.2%

In a market down 1.8% (H1:+16%, H2: -16.3%), PSA Peugeot Citroën Group registrations stood at 191,000 units, down 3.4%. Market share for the year was 7.2%.

Latin America:continued growth

Peugeot and Citroën brand registrations were up 5.7%, in an automotive market with marginal growth of 2.1% for the year as a whole. (H1:+14.4%, H2: - 8.3%),
With 260,000 registrations, Group market share increased to 5.5%.

• In Mercosur, where markets were up +13% (H1: +26.5%, H2: +1.7%), registrations for the Peugeot and Citroën brands increased by 12.2%. With 232,700 registrations, the Group maintained its market share at 7.2%.

- In Brazil, where the market rose 14.1%, Group registrations increased by 17.7% to 151,000 units. Over the year, market share came in at 5.6%, i.e. + 0.1 points on 2007.

- In Argentina, with a market up 7.8%, Group registrations increased 2.5% to 81,700 units, taking its market share to 14.2%.

China: a difficult year

In a market growing +4.9% (H1: +13.4%, H2: -3%), Dongfeng Peugeot Citroën Automobile (DPCA) registered 180,800 vehicles, down 12.7% compared with 2007.
In the second half of the year, the Chinese market saw a decline particularly in the medium range vehicles segment which represents DPCA’s core offer. 2008 was marked by the successful launching of the Citroën C-Elysée, which enabled the brand to double its sales in this market segment.

Russia: sharp rise in sales

In a buoyant market up +13.7% (H1: +32.9%, H2:-1.2%) PSA Peugeot Citroën registrations rose 67% to stand at 60,400 units.

In a very difficult economic climate, PSA Peugeot Citroën was able to count on some key drivers in 2008

• The Peugeot 308, after successfully ramping-up in H1, continued its progress in the second half of the year thanks to the introduction of 308 SW.

• The Citroën C5, on the market since April for the Sedan and June for the Tourer, has exceeded its sales objectives, in a segment under pressure.

• The range of eco-friendly vehicles has enabled PSA Peugeot Citroën to confirm its environmental leadership. For the 3rd consecutive year, global sales of vehicles emitting less than 140 g de CO2/km was well above the one-million threshold at 1,161,000. Worldwide sales of vehicles emitting less than 130g of CO2/km rose in 2008 to 921,000 units, up 7.4%.

• Thanks to the launching of the Citroën Nemo and Peugeot Bipper and the new Citroën Berlingo and Peugeot Partner, the Group PSA has strengthened its leadership in Western Europe on the LCV market, growing its market share by 1.3 points to reach 19.9%.

Mr. Martin will take up his new responsibilities on February 16 and begin attending Executive Committee meetings in mid-January. Currently head of the Rennes Production Center, Mr. Martin, 52, has a Masters degree in Management from Université Paris-Dauphine. He joined the Group on June 2, 2008.
